#One Week - Autumn '12 - And...

One Week pushes me into paying greater attention to the world around me; the colours, the changes, the unnoticed detail. But this project is turning out to be something else entirely, more than just a nature trail, it's becoming a kind of rite of passage - a personal festival - marking the events, crystallising my reflections, honing my intent throughout the wheel of the year...

This autumn, Little A has cuddled and demanded and lashed out and cuddled some more. She's rough and tumbled and tip toed and danced. She's learnt the difference between 'like' and 'not like', and used her new found understanding as sharpened weaponry with divisive aim. The other day, when I frustrated her with another "no", she retorted with, "I don't like you any more, I want my daddy instead."

I didn't take it personally, it's to be expected, but I was quite taken aback all the same.

As she races towards three, I suspect a new era is approaching, the dawning of a parental favourite...

'The age of daddy'

I'm secretly hoping this is the case, it might let me off the hook for a while. I might capture some time to read that book, to buy that jumper, to watch that box set, to write that novel...

Meanwhile, I have written and written and attended Blogfest and caught a cold and made casserole after casserole and dreamt and laughed and moaned and upped my medication and had my greedy fingers in the biscuit tin and seen wonderful friend after wonderful friend, and realised..... it might be a rather good idea to chill my boots and indulge myself in a few worthwhile things, like reading a good book, like having a hot bubble bath, like seeing more friends, like going to the cinema, like S.T.O.P'ing and enjoying the moment with a fine glass of wine.

As winter beckons with bare, frozen arms, I turn to autumn to thank her for showing in such simple, fluid, colourful ways, how to reestablish my equilibrium and enjoy the fruits of this year.

This is the final day of the seasonal linky One Week. I wanted to say a big, big thank you to all those lovely bloggers who joined in, and those who commented in support of this new blogging project.

One Week will return next winter for another five days, 25 February - 1 March. So get your cameras at the ready and imaginative hats on!

For more details about One Week, take a gander here. You can join in for one, two ... or the full five days...

  1. What a wonderfulpost and a wonderful week of posts. Thank you for doing this. It has also made me much more aware of my beautiful surroundings and I realised earlier that I forgot to include my Halloween and Guy Fawkes pics that were taken especially for this #oneweek! The colours have been glorious, the scenery spectacular. XXX

  2. Beautiful pictures and words once again. I too would like to say thank you for coming up with this idea and kindly hosting us :) It has forced me to make sure I have a camera of one kind or another with me all the time. We are outside every day and I have missed so many moments because I've forgotten my camera, taking part this week has re-programmed me, lifting may camera or at the very least my phone before going outside is a natural reaction now. :)

  4. Another great post. I hope for little A and daddy that there time is approaching. It is unfortunately a child's most vicious weapon to tell you they don't like you or worse(and believe me I've had a lot worse). I find that adopting a thick skin to these statement is essential because they are said to provoke, to manipulate a change in your mind and are angry statements which are not true.
I have loved being involved this week and have found so much to enjoy and be grateful for through writing and reading the other posts. Massive thank you for hosting and I can't wait for the winter edition!

    1. Thank you! Yes, she's definitely making a bee line for daddy now! Thank you for your sage advice - a thick skin is certainly required - and to stick to my guns. So glad you have enjoyed it - and that you will be taking part in the winter edition!

  5. You are so eloquent. It has been great to read your wonderful posts this week and share in #one week. Bravo! Bravo! Bravo! I toast your success with a glass of finest red. (Just a little sip obvs).

I read somewhere that they do go through a 'Daddy' stage around 3. Something to do with them feeling completely secure in their mother's love and able to branch out and further develop the relationships around them. If ever there was a back handed compliment, this is one. It means you've done a good job.

Have a lovely weekend - stopping and enjoying the moments. You deserve it, it's been a great week xxx

  10. Again, beautiful words and pictures. H always plays off daddy and mummy, I shouldn't worry but at nearly 3 I notice when she wakes in the night she calls for daddy. The sleepy part of me rejoices whilst the maternal me is saddened..

    1. Thank you! It's to be expected really. I have to say though,I would quite like Little A to start calling out for her dad in the night and not me - it's been me and only me for the last three years!

  13. Ah yes, I think Little A and Ma Puce are at similar stages... MP has recently started trying to play me off against her daddy and vice versa. It's amazing how quickly these new things creep up and take hold!

    1. Little A is constantly playing us off each other - girls are very wily indeed! The mad thing is that they just know how to do it - I didn't teach her this skill - well at least I hope not!
